Practice: LISTENING

Audio playback isn't available for this recording yet — the script is shown as text below instead.

Good morning, and welcome to Riverside Fitness Centre — thanks for joining today's new member orientation. My name is Tom, and I'll take you through everything you need to know before you start using the facilities. First, access: your membership card will get you through the turnstiles at the main entrance, and it also unlocks your assigned locker in the changing rooms — lockers are allocated by membership type, so make sure you check the number printed on your welcome pack rather than picking one at random. Second, opening hours: the centre opens at six in the morning on weekdays and closes at ten at night, but on weekends it opens later, at eight, and closes earlier, at eight in the evening. The swimming pool follows a slightly different schedule, closing an hour before the rest of the building every day for cleaning. Third, classes: group fitness classes need to be booked online at least two hours in advance, through the app, and cancellations must be made at least thirty minutes before the class starts, or you'll lose your booking credit for that week. Personal training sessions, on the other hand, are booked directly with your trainer and don't go through the app at all. Fourth, the car park: members get free parking for up to two hours, but you'll need to enter your membership number at the machine near the entrance when you arrive, otherwise the system won't recognise you as a member and you may be charged. Fifth, for anyone interested in the sauna and steam room, these are located on the lower ground floor, next to the pool, and are included in every membership tier except the off-peak one — off-peak members can still use them, but only outside of weekday mornings and evenings, when the centre is at its busiest. Sixth, towels: a fresh towel is provided free of charge at reception for every visit, but you'll need to return it to the bin near the changing rooms before you leave, since a five-pound charge applies to any towel that isn't returned. Finally, if you ever have an issue with your membership, billing, or access, the reception desk on the ground floor handles all of that directly — the trainers on the gym floor can help with equipment and classes, but they can't make any changes to your account. That covers the essentials — let's head over to the gym floor so I can show you around properly.
